IBPS PO Eligibility Criteria 2024 – Age Limit Relaxation, Qualification, Nationality

IBPS PO Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for IBPS PO include various factors such as age, qualifications, nationality, and more. The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) officially laid down these particular conditions in a notification PDF. It is crucial for prospective applicants to carefully review this notification to ensure a clear understanding of the eligibility requirements. Meeting these criteria is essential since it may lead to the disqualification of candidates. Once applicants have confirmed their eligibility status, they can complete the IBPS PO application form. Candidates must provide relevant documents (such as an Aadhaar card, Passport, educational certificates, etc.) to substantiate their eligibility and verify their identity during the application process.

IBPS PO Eligibility Criteria 2024

Understanding one’s eligibility for the examination is pivotal, as it determines whether one qualifies for the test. Here are the eligibility criteria for the majority of banking exams:

IBPS PO Nationality Eligibility Criteria 2024

Nationality is a critical factor in establishing a candidate’s eligibility for the examination. The eligibility conditions based on nationality are as follows: Candidates should be citizens of India, Nepal, or Bhutan. Additionally, individuals classified as Tibetan Refugees who arrived in India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement are eligible to apply. Persons of Indian origin (PIO) who have migrated from various countries, including Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries, and others, to permanently settle in India also meet the eligibility criteria. These nationality-based conditions are fundamental in determining whether a candidate qualifies to participate in the examination.

IBPS PO Age Limit Eligibility Criteria 2024

As per the latest information released by IBPS on August 1, 2024, candidates who wish to register for the IBPS PO exam must meet the following age criteria:

  1. The minimum age requirement is 20 years.
  2. The maximum age limit is 30 years.

In other words, prospective applicants should have a date of birth falling between August 2, 1993, and August 1, 2003, including both dates.

The relaxation in the upper age limit applies to SC/ST/OBC applicants, and it can be availed cumulatively with only one of the remaining classes for which age relaxation is allowed, as specified above. The maximum age limit defined applies to both General Category candidates and Economically Weaker (EWS) Category Candidates. The leisure in the upper age limit can be satisfied cumulatively by SC/ST/OBC applicants with just one of the remaining categories for which age relaxation is allowed.

Candidates who choose to avail of age relaxation must be prepared to provide the necessary certificates, such as their Caste/Category Certificate issued by the competent authority, in their original form and photocopies. These documents will be required during the Interview and at any stage of the recruitment process, as mandated by IBPS or the Participating Bank(s).

Candidates belonging to the OBC category but falling under the creamy layer are not eligible for OBC reservations. They should indicate their category as General while completing the online application form. Additionally, there is no reservation for Ex-servicemen in the Officers’ Cadre category. However, if an ex-serviceman registers for various vacancies before securing civil employment, they can subsequently claim the benefit of reservation as a veteran for future employment opportunities.

IBPS PO Educational Qualification Eligibility Criteria 2024

The institute mandates that candidates aspiring to take the IBPS PO exam must hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. In addition to possessing a Bachelor’s degree, candidates preparing for the IBPS PO exam should stay well-informed about the latest exam pattern and syllabus. Furthermore, qualifications deemed equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree, such as AMIE or government departmental courses, are also deemed acceptable.

However, candidates seeking recognition of these alternative qualifications must prove that the Government of India recognizes them as equivalent to a standard degree (Graduation). During the online application process, candidates are required to specify the percentage they obtained during their Graduation. For candidates who received their grades in CGPA format, converting this into a percentage is imperative. This percentage calculation should be accurate to the nearest two decimal places. Note that any fractional percentage values will be disregarded. For instance, 54.99% will be considered less than 55%, and 59.99% will be less than 60%.

It’s important to emphasize that the institute does not specify a particular eligibility percentage for the IBPS PO exam. Instead, individual banks utilize the aggregate percentage calculated by IBPS for specific purposes. Candidates are encouraged to take advantage of free online quizzes for comprehensive and effective preparation for the IBPS PO exam. These quizzes assist in preparation and enable candidates to assess their readiness and proficiency level.

Eligibility Criteria for EWS Category

Applicants who do not fall within the SC, ST, or OBC categories and have a gross annual income of less than 8 lakh rupees are categorized as EWS candidates, signifying they belong to the Economically Weaker Section. Such candidates are eligible for a 10% reservation in vacancies released by IBPS. The calculation of income includes all revenue sources, such as salary, business, agriculture, profession, etc., for the financial year preceding the year of application. However, individuals possessing any of the following assets will not be considered part of the EWS category, regardless of their annual family income:

  • Ownership of 5 acres of agricultural land or more.
  • Possession of a residential flat measuring 1000 sq. ft. or more.
  • Ownership of a residential plot measuring 100 sq. yards or more in notified municipalities.
  • Ownership of a residential property measuring 200 sq. yards or more in areas other than notified municipalities.

To determine EWS status, properties owned in various locations by a single “Family” are combined for the property holding assessment. Candidates aiming to avail of the EWS reservation during the IBPS PO Selection Process must furnish an Income and Asset Certificate in the prescribed format, issued by a Competent Authority, during the document verification and interview rounds. The term “Family” includes the individual seeking reservation benefits, their parents, siblings below 18, spouse, and children below 18.

Eligibility Criteria for PWD Category

As per the regulations set forth by the Government of India, individuals with benchmark disabilities are entitled to reservation under Section 34 of “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.” The categories of disabilities eligible for reservation under this Act include the following:

1. Deaf and hard of hearing

2. Blindness and low vision

3. Intellectual disability, autism, mental illness, and specific learning disability

4. Locomotor disability encompasses leprosy, cerebral palsy, dwarfism, muscular dystrophy, and acid attack victims.

People with benchmark disabilities will be allocated reserved vacancies following the provisions outlined in “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016,” and based on the vacancies reported to IBPS by participating banks.

Guidelines for PWD Using Scribe Services in IBPS PO Exam 2024

Candidates with a permanent impairment affecting their writing speed or those with a minimum benchmark disability can utilize their scribe during the IBPS PO Exam 2024, subject to specific regulations. Candidates must request scribe services while completing their IBPS PO Application Form to access them. It is the candidate’s responsibility to arrange for their scribe, and the candidate will cover all associated expenses. Both the candidate and the chosen writer must submit an undertaking confirming their compliance with all prescribed eligibility conditions, and any failure to do so may lead to the cancellation of the candidate’s candidature, regardless of the Common Recruitment Process (CRP) outcome.

The scribe is eligible for a compensatory time of 20 minutes or, as otherwise recommended, covering the entire duration of the examination. A system-based process determines compensatory time allocation; only registered candidates will receive such concessions. These guidelines ensure equitable support for candidates with disabilities during the IBPS PO Exam while upholding the integrity of the examination process.

Guidelines for Candidates with Disabilities in IBPS Exams

For Candidates with Cerebral Palsy and Locomotor Disability

Candidates who have a minimum of 40% Cerebral Palsy or Locomotor Disability, significantly if it affects their dominant extremity (such as their writing hand) to a degree that may impact their performance, will be eligible for a compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour or as recommended by the authority.

For Candidates with Intellectual Disability

Candidates with more than 40% Intellectual Disability, those with mental illnesses, Autism, or Specific Learning Disabilities will obtain a compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour during the exam, regardless of whether they use Scribe services.

For Visually Impaired Candidates

Visually Impaired candidates with a disability of 40% or higher can view the contents of the question paper in a magnified font and are eligible for a compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour, as advised. This facility is available only to visually impaired candidates who do not utilize the services of a Scribe.

These directives ensure that candidates with various disabilities receive appropriate accommodations to facilitate their participation in IBPS exams, promoting inclusivity and accessibility.

Persons with disabilities are entitled to reservation in the IBPS PO exam as per The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. For visually impaired candidates, IBPS PO Eligibility includes provisions for using a scribe following specified guidelines. The number of reserved vacancies is determined once the respective banks provide information about their vacant positions to the institute. Candidates who meet all the IBPS mentioned above PO Eligibility criteria should commence their exam preparation well in advance. Since the IBPS application process is conducted online, it is advisable to keep scanned copies of all relevant supporting documents readily accessible. This preparation will expedite the application process and enable candidates to secure their preferred examination centre efficiently.
